MY new hat.

I finally made a hat for myself. It was made up of my favourite scraps of yarn that I could not part with including some from my two sweaters I made for myself this year, Sean's baby blanket, Chris' scarf that ate the yarn, my first hat and mittens set, my vest, and silvery grey which I love but never had enough to do very much with.

Laura and Leonard are relaxing in the background.

The Christmas Scarf that ate the yarn...

This is Christopher's Christmas present (along with some knitted dishcloths and knitted slippers), it was also the scarf that ate all the yarn. Measuring only 5feet 3inches...this scarf ate TWO WHOLE skeins of wool. I guess those intricate cables and size 3.75mm needles make it the way it is. I was hoping to get a hat out of the two skeins but I barely had enough to finish. It has a garter stitch border and two 3by3 cables on the side, a stockinette center with a strip down the center.

Baby Charlie Warm for Winter!

This is baby Charlie wearing her winter set. I loved the Bernat Comfort Worsted Weight Yarn I used in light pink. Its so soft and warm.

It's been hard to blog lately since I am knitting away to make the Christmas deadline...can't wait to see my family decked out in my knitted gear.

More Christmas Gifting!

Christmas gifts have taken up all my time since I am attempting to knit something special for 23 people! I'm so excited for when they open them. This is another Christmas gift for my sister Laura. A green infinity scarf. Its obviously not a winter scarf....but I love it and I hope she does too.
The pattern was so simple as well. I did it on a size 11mm needle to make super big holes.

I did this on straight needles then connected the ends with a mattress stitch. I only used 1 skein of merino wool to complete it.
CO desired thickness (I think I did 22)
First row K *YO K2tog* repeat from *to* until last stitch K
Second Row K P til last stitch then K edge
Third Row K K *YO K2tog* repeat from * to * then K last two stitches
Forth Row same as second row
Then start back at the first row

Look What I Found!

dnananananananananananan BATMAN!
I'm sick so I decided this would be a great opportunity to knit up a storm and catch up on Christmas knitting. So I was doing just that when I decided to wrap a gift for a baby shower this weekend. As I was searching for wrapping paper I saw a bin and I decided to go through it. There were some amazing finds including a winter coat, a knitted vest and THIS! When I was a child my grandmother used to make these amazing sweaters for us. Including the famous Batman one.  This one must have been made for my mother since it fits me. I'm going to wear it next time I see them.

Who needs to BUY dish cloths?

I dont! Now I can make them with 100% cotton. They are super absorbent and awesome stocking stuffers. I used a simple eyelit pattern for the cloth and did a single crochet for the hook.

Is it a HAT?

Yes, Sebastian this is a hat.  This summer my friends, Greg and Cat's son came to spend some time with me. He is 2 years old. We got to play badminton, we painted, practiced our letters and watched movies. He was so wonderful. He was constantly putting things on his head saying "Auntie Sarah, is it a hat?" including his toilet seat. Well Sebastian this is a hat for you this Christmas. Miss you xoxo.

Yarning for Good...

My friend Vivian Shi started an initiative to make hats for people in need this winter. I'm super excited to be a part of this group and look forward to our first meeting today at St. Luke's Church. If you are knitter and can donate a knitted hat it would be greatly appreciated.

These booties are made for walking...

These warm booties are great for walking around my cold house in the winter. Anyone who has ever visited my house in the dead of winter knows how cold it is in here...my dad can live in an igloo and not be cold. These are part of my mom's Christmas gift. They were super simple to make and are super comphy to wear.

Ladder Scarf II- Christmas Gifting

Hats and scarves are the simplest gifts for Christmas and this way I can ensure that my whole family is sporting a cool creation of mine. I can't seem to stop with the ladder scarf...I love it! This time I did it in a thicker wool and on a size 13 needle and it still looks awesome. Here is my model,  who has been missing lately sporting a red ladder scarf, I was able to catch her for a quick pose before bed. I also made the scarf in a light greyish colour, which looks great!
